In the Fall of 2018, the i-Jet Lab pioneered an effort to partner with undergraduate and graduate programs across the University of Illinois to hold a case competition at the Gies College of Business. Led by the MBA program, this competition also brought together students in technology, topography, and more, to research markets that could sustain new business efforts, and that could support healthy boating activity with nearby bodies of water.
This was an exciting moment for us and the University; it provided the opportunity for talented minds from various concentrations to come together to create solutions for Brunswick. This also provided an opportunity for Brunswick to build relationships with key prospective partners throughout the University. The format of the competition included a two-week working period for teams, where they could take the time to conduct their research, formulate their strategies and ask questions leading up to the day of presentations. On the day of presentations, each team presented their findings and answered questions from judges, of whom included i-Jet Lab employees, Brunswick leadership and personnel, and University MBA alumni.
In the end, three teams were selected to present a second round, and from there, one team was chosen as the winner. The winning recommendations have given Brunswick and the i-Jet Lab sound food for thought and inspiration for some of our forward-looking projects.
This competition was great exposure for our company and products to the students here at UIUC. We had 10 solid cross-discipline teams that came up with some very good insights. - Troy.
